Zu Zen

a-Zu zenZu Zen has been practicing hatha yoga for more than 20 years. What has inspired her the most was taking the personal practice outdoors to parks, with fresh air, beautiful scenery and bare feet. From there grew the connection with circus artists practicing in the same terrain in Montreal. And slowly started a 6 year involvement with circus training with Cirque du Monde in Acrobatics and Cirqua Caserna in Aerial Hoop. She has taught circus arts to children ages 6 to 14 in various schools. As an aerial acrobat, she has performed in various indoor events as well as outdoor festivals. Being a lover of movement exploration in nature, she was often seen training in her aerial hoop in trees, and creating different aerial apparatus with slings, rings and hanging them on bridges and over rivers. In the last few years, she has compacted her equipment to the ultra light level for backpacking in different nature paradises of the world. This past year, she has brought her aerial swing to different festivals in Oregon and California, beautiful spots in Guatemala, Mexico, and back to various provinces in Canada. The Yoga Club that she started in a park 10 years ago, has evolved organically into the Aerial Exploration Playshop to share the fun in the air.

The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. The Dances are a form of moving meditation, with a focus on attunement to the divine reality and respect for all the various manifestations of this reality. Based on the work begun in the late 60’s by Samuel L. Lewis, they promote peace and integration within individuals and groups worldwide. There are neither performers nor audience – new arrivals and old hands form the circle together.

We lead Dances of Universal Peace approximately twice a month during the fall, winter and spring in Ottawa. We also lead Dances at special events.

If you want to know when Dances of Universal Peace are being offered in the Ottawa area, go to ourCalendar of Events.
